Found some time for the project
07/06/2014 at 18:37 • 0 commentsBetween work and family I have not had much time for the project, but did manage to carve out a few hours this weekend. Worked on the panels. Found unused power run from the barn to the house. Remember seeing in years ago when I was crawling under the house. Found it again and now have the panel power running over that line. This gets rid of the cables laying across the yard.
I also found some time to work on the monitoring board. Was able to get the power poles mounted to the board, current sensors (ACS715) wired up and a voltage divider circuit with adjustment pot on the board.
I also able to connect all the signal pins to various wires. Now for some more testing.

New panels collecting power
06/22/2014 at 13:03 • 0 commentsMy son's and I build a 2x4 frame for two 100watt panels. Still need to get the hole dug for the mounting pole, but the panels are collecting power.

Board work
06/20/2014 at 21:10 • 0 commentsSpent some time today working on the monitoring board.. Power pole connectors attached to current sensors.
I used 12 gauge wire for the connections but 14 gauge would have worked as well and been easier to use.

more locations
06/16/2014 at 01:06 • 0 commentsSaw some improvement in power when I moved the panels out from the house. This location is not setting well with the wife.. She has a spot back by the barn. I have a temporary cable run to an old generator power connection I put in some time ago. 0 guage wire to the house. today was a nice sunny day but can say I saw any improvement over the last location but this one is more wife friendly so This might be the final spot. i need to let it set this week and see what the power provided looks like. also need to investigate an old wire in the barn that goes into the house. I think it was shutdown when the new 220v line was put in but may still be usable for the solar run. more on that to come.

Packaging
06/08/2014 at 21:29 • 0 commentsStill trying to find a good package for the electronics. I didn't like the wiring on the original board and while I am waiting for a replacement android nano ( that I destroyed) to arrive Ill see what I can do design a better circuit layout and better way to handle the power cables coming in and out of the device.

new location
06/08/2014 at 21:23 • 0 commentsBetween the rain drops I moved HF panels further into the yard see if I get more sun in that location.
Not going to get much data today, but tomorrow is suppose to be sunny. Ill Try the panels in the side yard. Then going to move them out near the barn and see if that makes a different and finally out to the stables. That would be the longest cable run (250ft) but I already have 0 guage wire run out there from the house for a 220 line I can disconnect.

oops.
06/02/2014 at 01:00 • 0 commentsI started to move my project from the Uno proto board to the nano arduino board, but managed to cross a couple of wires and put 12v on the 3.3 line.. apparently let the blue smoke out since the nano is no longer working. Just hoping I didnt also trash the network board. Will have to test it tomorrow.
