The display hinge on an old Asus Pro31J I got from a friend was broken, but the rest of the machine worked fine after fixing the display connection with some soldering. I knew we needed a laptop to browse the web in our repair café, so set out on fixing it. After using a Dremel to remove some of the plastic and measuring the broken hinge I fired up FreeCAD and came up with a replacement part which I printed out in ABS for strength. The part fitted almost perfectly and I glued it in with some epoxy. It's not pretty, but it works fine...
