DRVxxxx Breakout

Breakout-boards for some of TI's motor Drivers

Similar projects worth following
Breakout-boards for DRV8839 and DRV8836

DRV8836:
There are different little PCBs with DC-motor driver out there. But yet I did not found one with this nice IC. The DRV8836 can drive two DC-motors (see data sheet for more details).

I will use this for experiments with little Robots. A small one PCB robot is perhaps one of my future projects.

DRV8836

The two Motors (Motor A and B ) can be controlled via two inputs:

  • Direction (DA / DB): high or low for the direction
  • Enable (PA / PB): used to control motor speed over an PWM signal

There is also an notSleep (!SL) input. If this pin is unconnected or low the ICs goes into a sleep-state. It must be pulled up to operate Motors.

Supply Voltage can be 7V or lower (min. 2V).

For more Information take a look at the data sheet!

Note to DRV8835

This board is also usable for DRV8835. This driver IC has a split supply for logic and moor but no sleep function. So the pin labeld with sleep (!SL) will be the logic supply pin (Vcc) and Vcc is the motor supply (Vm).

Compared to the DRV8836, the DRV8839 has some other features. It has is only capable of driving one Motor, but which much more control option. And driving Motors with it will not be my application. There are two independent Half bridges inside the DRV8839 each with a an enable and output-State input. So you can create two powerful (up to 1.8A) tri-state outputs with it.

The PCBs is read and already sent to manufacturer (see PCB color if you want to know which one). Here a Preview created with http://3dbrdviewer.cytec.bg

The two THT Pads in the middle are for are optional THT-Capacitor. On the sides the Pin-headers do fit directly into a Breadboard.

  • Soldering - DRV8836

Today my ICs have arrived. So I soldered one board. This WSON-Package is the smallest IC form factor that I have soldered so far. But the board works! For size comparison: The Capacitors are 0805 SMD types.

PCBs arrived today. I'm still waiting on the IC. The next task will be the soldering. I think this will get a little bit tricky it is so small.

Hello,

the easiest way would be to order them at OSH-Park. I shared this project there: https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/0FMcgQ4H

At OSH-Park you can order them for ~1.60US$ (three including shipping). The link is also above in the link section on the right side.

If you cant wait for manufacturing, and shipping from the USA, I do have two boards left over and could sent them to you (from Germany - should be faster). It could be possible that I do have also components left over, but I have to look.

For soldering these you should hve advaced skills in solderin. Specially the driver IC is not easy to solder.

I would gladly buy these if you had them available...boards or kits.

Thank you!

I uploaded the board at OSH-park. Just visit https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/0FMcgQ4H and get your own (1.60 US$ for three).  At the moment I am not planing to sell them myself.  I did get the IC from mouser but it should be available elsewhere.
