Gear Cutting

A project log for 2.5-3D thing

a tiny-but-scalable three-ish axis-system *from* laser-cuts

Found an image of the motors/worm-gear that seemed to be pretty much straight-on... so cropped and cleaned it a bit in gimp, then traced the bitmap into a path in inkscape, then output SCAD code via Make a 3D print from a 2D drawing...

Did some math... and I think I could actually cut a mating gear with a bit more math and measurements:

(Of course, this is the cutout-piece that will be subtracted from a cylinder)

Very creative using three programs for that :)

Gears... should be a form of art. Good luck with them :)

Thanks! :)
There's sure to be some backlash, and a bit of math
left, to make sure the measurements are right (don't have the actual
ones on-hand, so have to work from limited data). But I'm kinda proud of
having come up with this process to mate with an unknown/unspecified
gear :)
Did you look at that link for the motors? I bet they'd drop-in on your yellow motor-gearboxes, if you want to add encoders!

they look neat, but I've already exceeded my shopping limits... It's this time of year again, where I don't hack but only buy stuff :D

Did seem like your project-updates have slowed a bit, lately... now I know why!

well this and work... I've crossed off two continents this year I've never been to before and was (actually still am) quite busy working. But now that I'm home I can use some time for projects again :)

while I was traveling I had plenty of ideas and could only buy stuff for the projects and don't work on them too.

clearly you need to have a hacker-toolkit to bring everywhere with you!
