What could be used to attract mosquitoes strongly enough that they would crawl inside the jar?

The two things that immediately pop into my head are chemical traces of either a food source or a potential mate. There are a number of mosquito lures that you can order as replacements for existing mosquito traps so that is where I'll start my research.

Not unexpected as we've known about pheromones and have been annoyed with mosquitoes for a long time.

So the trick will be to make a project accessible to the average DIYer without violating copyright or being too expensive.
