This project was chosen for obvious personal financial considerations important to most of us who drive a vehicle to work. Also, substantial carbon emissions are due to transportation, as little as a 7% gain in millage will equal the carbon emissions from the top 5 highest polluting coal burning power plants. As most of us know, the mileage a vehicle achieves is highly dependent on driving habits. I noticed that with careful driving, and without excessively lowered driving speeds, my actual combined highway/city mileage could actually exceed the EPA rated economy of the vehicle many modern vehicles are turning to drive by wire systems that allow computer control of the vehicles systems, in this case primarily the throttle input for substantial gains; some claim up to 100 mpg on modern hybrids. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/28/how-to-get-100-mpg/

Many vehicles also output GPS data among many other parameters. This allows us to poll this location and velocity information, and as most drivers take similar routes the location velocity data can be calculated and returned to the vehicle in the form of optimized throttle input in order to optimize vehicle mileage.

    Imported Library's and first code assembled. Headers soldered on to Canbus shield, hopefully all will work when plugged in! Pictures wouldn't upload, procrastination for uploading is a killer!

    Can-bus can be a little daunting, especially considering the proprietary definitions used in the manufactures systems. The vehicles mechanical systems have their own setup as well. I found on my particular vehicle the user gas pedal contained two potentiometers biased differently, so in order to emulate the pedals behavior with a digital pot it would require biasing with resistors in addition to the digital potentiometers.
