Description

AreaCPLD is a break out development board based on altera maxV cpld family, which provides low cost and low power consumption compared to other cpld families. The project has been developed using Kicad and it's open hardware under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (cc-by-4.0).

The purpose of the board is to make an easy way to introduce people to digital logic design using a cheap development board, it can be programmed using one of the most used Hardware Description Languages like VHDL or Verilog.

So... you may be asking... why to use a CPLD breakout board instead of a more powerful FPGA development board?

1- CPLDs are actually cheaper than FPGA
2- CPLDs dot not need to be reprogrammed on every switch ON as they store the configuration inside it's internal flash memory.
3- CPLDs do not need external devices to work (smaller PCB size).
4- CPLDs, the cheapest way to introduce yourself into your first VHDL or Verilog design.

1 × Altera MaxV 5M80ZT100C5N Altera MaxV 5M80ZT100C5N with 80 Logic elements and 79 IOs. TQFP package.

1 × ATTINY9-TS Microcontroller SOT23-6

1 × USB mini B SMD connector To power the board

11 × 100nF 0805 power supply decoupling capacitors

1 × PIN HEADER 2x5 JTAG programming connector, 2.54mm pitch

OSH Stencils Finally Here

Stencils have finally arrived and here we have a picture after unboxing.
This is the result after applying some solder paste to the boards using the received stencil and the solder paste spreader.
