Very cool project, do you happen to have more info such as schematics and code?
Maxim also has a chip that can replace the optoisolators the MAX6922
I have to say, that I can't really recommend building this clock as such.. MAX6922 could be a good thing, but I couldn't get the VFD grids to switch fast enough to eliminate all ghosting.
I need to take a look at the 6922..
