awesome! so what's the price difference, is it noteable? or did you design that purely out of 'not being produced anymore' and curiosity in designing stuff?
The material costs of mine would be cheaper than a original (4~7€ on eBay). My should be under 2€ (PIC: 0,88€ + LEDs and resistors). A cost caluculation is a good idea to add to the details.. mh maybe I will do that the next days.
The motivation was mostly out of curiosity. And it was was a very good soldering exercise. One benefit of the rebuilt is that it could get produced in any color LEDs are available. I did only chose red ones, because they were the cheapest.
One other thing I was thinking about: The board could be also used for other things. By reprogramming the PIC it could be used for a lot of things. For example you could just count pulses on one of the input pins.
