VR was supposed to change the world. Hence the overpriced headsets that are used for immersive porn watching. That might've been the reason google came out with their cheapo goggles. FPV goggles are also super expensive. The only ones I can think of close to $50 are the eachine vr-006 and the vr-007. After that, for some bottom of the line box goggles you're looking to pay around $100. The pros use fatsharks, but who wants to pay $200-$400 for some goggles? Not me. I don't even want to pay $50. Using the google cardboard design, your iphone 6, some biconvex lenses, the expanded PVC every hacker has, and a lot of the features I see on other goggles, I'll make myself one I can customize and throw around without worrying about losing my cash.

There's really only two parts you can't make yourself, and you probably could, but for now i'm not. You need a cheap android phone to be the screen, and you need the receiver.

One more thing- the phone i bought says it can't run the app, i can't remember the name, because the phone "doesn't have uvc drivers" to run it. If anyone knows how to download those, some tips would be great.
Alright, the box is finished! Let me note, however, that instead of using the iphone 6, i have to use the 5 because it sits in the box better. It was my mom's old phone, so the battery's shot and the screen is cracked, but it'll work. I need a new phone soon anyways, so i'll replace it when I can. That being said, It needs to be connected to a power source, and that means the power bank I have needs to power the receiver and the phone, which isn't really a big deal. I made a "sock" to go around it to clean the look up a bit. It's made from some old rags, so still haven't spent anything. The phone holder is just some velcro strips.
Thanks to everyone for liking this project! I need the money, between the drone, the radio, and now this, it's appreciated! I will be using the money for a pair of $30 goggles as a comparison (video up soon), and a video receiver for these, plus a few extra parts for the drone. Really, thanks a million.

So, I started in, because my afternoon's wasted already. The first step was to cut out templates on paper, because paper's a lot easier to work with. The only tedious part was the nose cutout. Thank you to @Thomas Shaddack for the dimensions...
I also started work on my Diversity Controller, adding a ground bar and the one chip that I have (the other's in the mail).
There are quite a few guides online showing how to use google cardboard as fpv goggles. My only problem with that idea is how flimsy cardboard is. It would not last many trips into the "wild".
Now, a good design I considered was the smart vr from dodocase. I can guarantee it would not be hard to make, especially if i don't need to have it fold up. It would be nice, but it's unnecessary. The only problem is the light leakage, but i'm sure i could figure something out.
A diversity receiver is not, in fact, politically correct. It takes the input from two antennas, and decides which is giving it the better signal, and uses that antenna. The one I'm making is thanks to RcModelReviews on youtube, and costs $1.29-ish. I don't seem to be able to post the video, so i'll just link it. Here it is. Instead of dead buggin' it, (so named because all the debugging you'll have to do will kill you) i'm protoboarding it and making a case out of an altoids tin, so it's a bit cleaner.
