11Step 11
Then assemble the top cover and put the knob.
-
12Step 12
Now make a hole for the cable sleeve.
Half up of the hole is on the top part of the case and half botton, as well, on the botton of the case.
Now insert the cable sleeve and check if everything is ok.
-
13Step 13
Repeat steps 5-12 for the other box, and we're almost there
-
14Step 14
Now get the 10ft strip 2 inches on each side. Choose your favorite colors for the potentiometer and the push button and twist the pairs to identify them easily. Twist the shield also.
-
15Step 15
Scratch one point in the potentiometer body and tin this point with some solder. We are going to use this point for attaching the cable shield.
-
16Step 16
Solder the wires on the button and on the potentiometer. Pass the cable through the sleeve before doing that. Solder also the cable shield in the pot body. Use therm-retractile 'spaghetti' in the contacts and in the cable shield.
About the potentiometer connections, the minimal resistance shall be when the paddle is all turned right (clockwise). So, turn the pot completely to the right and then measure which contact gets zero or close to zero resistance to know the correct point to solder the wire.
As a reference I've used: the following colours.
- RED - VCC, at pot 'full clockwise' contact
- YELLOW - Pot cursor
- BROWN - GND, push button contact
- ORANGE - Push button, other contact
-
17Step 17
Now put a Ty-wrap on the cable right before the sleeve. Then close the cover and check if everything is ok.
-
18Step 18
Repeat the steps 15-17 for the other box and now we are really almost done!
-
19Step 19
Now that both paddles are assembled cut the cable in half. and strip one inch of wire from each side.
Using schematic as a reference, solder the cables the respective pins.
Then solder the cable shield in the connector and put a Ty-Wrap to hold the wires from both paddles firmly together
-
20Step 20
Now put the DB-9 Cover.
