Huh - interesting. That edge-trigger circuit is effectively a single stage of a Cockroft Walton voltage multiplier. When the level switches the multiplication effect (which usually requires an AC voltage source) is engaged and you briefly get a +3v output generated from -3v and 0v. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockcroft%E2%80%93Walton_generator
