Back from vacation and finally more or less caught up. My Ethernet jacks arrived from Hanrun while I was away, 250 of them. A quick check shows that luckily, they seem to fit my footprint:

I've also been creating the BOM and crunching some numbers on pricing to get a better idea of what the BOM cost and COGS might be, and unfortunately it's higher than what I had been guessing. Bottom line is that with the numbers I see, in low quantities this is likely going to be a ~$45 board to make it worth my while. I know that's a lot more than most ESP32 boards, but usually the only "expensive" part on those is the ESP32 module. Compared to other "normal" ESP32 boards, the Ethernet jack and phy add a good amount of cost, and the PoE power components like the PD chip and flyback add even more.
So now the question is: would you still be interested in buying this board at that price? Please comment!

I had to buy these directly from the manufacturer in China. Up till now I've always bought exactly what I needed for my builds, but maybe it makes sense to order some more so I can sell these in small quantities to people who want to play with them.

I would also be willing to buy 10-20 of these. Especially the POE capability is the reason I'm interested in this. $45 still seems to be quite reasonable compared to other alternatives.

Hm I am planning to buy multiple (5..10) so I can make custom IoT agents. It seems that the codebase for this chip is solid and the integrated PoE would make it much easier.
It would be nice if with large interest we could lower the price for everyone. ;-)

$45 is pushing the limits for my immediate application, although probably fine for other people. Just a side question, how much does the PoE add to the BOM and would it be possible to build a cheaper version by simply omitting the PoE components for people who don't need PoE but are looking for a ESP32 with wired Ethernet ? Or does anyone know of a "cheap" ESP32 with wired Ethernet board ?

I think leaving off the PoE components might actually work. Instead of having the 12V or 5V available on the GPIO header, you'd have to supply an input voltage to the GPIO header instead.
