Updated compiled kernel module, it now works on Raspbian 2016-11-25.

Uploaded a module pre-compiled for raspbian-2016-3-18.

Module now sets permissions on device file so it will be usable by non-root users.

Shortened device name to hd44780. It got a bit tedious typing the old one. Instructions have been changed to match.

Made gallery photos square, it looks nicer.
