i went with what I believe is more approachable for more people. the idea here is no "exotic" hadware. I'm using common hardware to do extraordinary things. This project will go bare metal once the full basic OS is realized, and although I'm not looking forward to the driver 'Hell" that awaits me, I'm going to put together a realistic set of specs for a group of systems that will be certified to run this. the QEMU version is the first stepping stone. Later revisions will explore Arm and RiscV (Risc is good), but no reason it can't work on those.
I am focused on the architecture that I know, and that is readily available to prove out the system and debug before moving on to other platforms. Right now the devil I know is better than the one I don't.
I understand the Retro Tech thing and enjoy it from time to time myself, but the Amiga could have been so much more than what was possible with 30 year old limitations. like putting a model T engine in a 2026 Corvette. All the advancements over those 30+ years were never applied to an architecture that truly deserved better, and I aim to find out how well things would have come out. I really don't know, but I'm trusting the process, and we'll all find out together.
Thanks for following, and keep checking back. I'm spending 8 to 12 hrs a day on this currently, and I'm posting every day I work on it. Nice to see someone noticed.
As an old Amiga fan, I find your project interesting. Best of luck but is there a reason you went with X86 vs Arm or RiscV? Yes you have a lot of hardware but still it would be cool to see it on RiscV
