Modern VW's have sensitive solid state circuits for driveibg and monitoring tail lights so splicing in a trailer socket is not recommended. So to get around this i designed and built an opto isolated and current limited solid state driver

sounds like my problem. The best advice I can give about building a CNC from scratch is order one of EBAY - while I Was playing with my scrap built 3d printer it was great and got pretty good results but as I wanted better the cost to upgrade it was going to cost more than buying a complete unit. I did put together one of those 3018CNC kits recently and for the $150 or so they work out pretty well - and you still get to build it and tweak it
