Separate rooms for driver should be made in which small cabins with properly installed driver seat including brakes gears etc. Infront of driver there should be screen which will be displaying the front and back view to the driver.
Automation should be done such that when he applied break there , signal will be transferred to the bus controlling mechanism and brakes are applied . Similarly all processes should be controlled remotely.
Advantages
1) As driver has no need to go the place where he is driving the bus for passengers so he can controll the bus while sitting in a place where he is readily available.
2) Number of seats can be increased.
3) Driver should waste less amount of energy comparatively as the person is more exhausted while on running vehicle.
Next time do some research as to the responsibility of a drivers or anything you try to remove.
Automation meets liability... Technology evolves whatever but when you are running a business that involves well being of others, you can't take the legal responsibility away that easily. Let the insurance company figure out the risk factors if/when technology is ready for it. The business cost is not just the salary.
There is a different industry that you should look at: Trucking. Same issues, but much less liabilities and not have to worry about consumer appeals.
Yes you are right. there are advantages as well as disadvantages. But always keep in mind there is space of improvement in every technology or invention.
As a passenger, I won't take that bus.
