I want to create a simple xy machine that can draw with pencil on paper but with the possibility in mind that it can grow into a laser engraver or 3d printer. I am going to start by using cheap general purpose material and 2 old flatbed scanners. And I use my M3d Micro 3D printer to attach the elements together.
Components
4×
Square aluminium profile, 20x20x1.5mm of 460mm length
this will form the square frame of 500x500mm
4×
Lineaur Bearing LM8UU
4×
Rotation Bearings 8mm
1×
2 scanner steppermotors
2 motors for the x axis
I bought a 2 meter long square tube aluminium profile a the local store of 20x20x1.5mm size. I saw it in 4 pieces of 460mm length so with the 20mm corners that I am currently printing, the size of the frame will be 500x500mm.
I dissasambled the 2 flatbed scanners, which I plan on going to use the sliders and the steppermotors from. I think I will skip the belt drive and go for direct drive threaded rod actuators, because it seems more straight forward and can use less precise (less rotation per step) stepper motors.
