Received some parts
06/07/2014 at 13:19 • 0 commentsI received the steppers, stepper drivers and the 12V PSU today. Yesterday I received the FRDM-K64F board and the solenoid actuator. I plan to mainly work on the software this weekend.

Finished sourcing parts
06/04/2014 at 11:22 • 0 commentsI have finished sourcing all the major parts for the project. Since the last update I have ordered ball screws with nuts and bearings, linear rails, a vacuum pump, solenoid valves, some aluminium tubing, FRDM-K64F boards and various components.

CAD model
06/03/2014 at 16:58 • 0 commentsI have been modeling the mechanical parts of the machine in FreeCAD. I'v uploaded some renderings but they are not complete or final. Some important parts, such as the feeders and all the electrical parts are missing and I'm sure I can improve the design. I will share the CAD files when I'm sure they are reasonably close to the finished prototype.

Component selection.
05/25/2014 at 21:37 • 0 commentsI'v spent most of the weekend on selecting components, particularly steppers, ball screws and linear guides.
The firmware will run on a Freescale K64F ARM Cortex M4 MCU which is conveniently available on a FRDM K64F Mbed enabled board. I will use this board for prototyping and build separate boards for anything I need that is not on the dev board. Eventually I plan to integrate everything (except some power stuff) on one board.
I have ordered some of the parts needed:
-2 OV7660+FIFO camera modules.
-Solenoid actuator. This will be used to extend a pin which will be used to advance tape in the feeders.
-12V 5A power supply. Will power the vacuum pump, a solenoid valve, a solenoid actuator, LED rings for the cameras as well as a power supply board supplying 3.3 and 5V to other parts.I have built some hardware:
-12V DC in, 3.3V and 5V out regulator board.
-Driver board for the vacuum pump, solenoid valve and solenoid actuator.
