opencv machining

Description

Milling machine Digital Read Outs (DROs) are expensive pieces of equipment that measure the position of the milling machine table. This allows the machine operator to line up features with each other on a part and put them precise distances away from each other. Without a DRO, using a milling machine is difficult and some operations aren't really possible. Things like bolt patterns are pretty easy to do with a DRO but without a DRO you'd need a rotary table, which is expensive.

The idea here is to use Charuco boards to locate the milling machine table. Charuco boards are paper and are cheap. Webcams are readily available. DROs usually cost around $400, this setup was made with parts I had sitting around.

Today the code was created and initial testing was done.

    TLDR

Absolute accuracy of Camera DRO is about 2 thousandths. Relative accuracy is similar. This is way better than I expected.
