So I'm thinking that the thumb key will be a modifier for the finger keys, but we'll see what happens. I'd like to play around with designing an angled box for it.
Another baby step towards building a Dactyl keyboard.

Okay, printed version 4 yesterday with 14mm x 14mm switch holes. The switches snap in satisfyingly, but unseat a bit when pulling keycaps. I might hot glue them in place. Superglue would be better, but more likely to seep in and ruin the switches.
For version 2, I pulled the thumb switch closer, made the switch holes 15mm, and minkowski'd out the sharp corners. The switches don't fall through now, but there is a gap that's too big to fix with hot glue.
Printed this last night, and the switches fell right through. :(
Also, I think I will adjust the thumb area, because my thumb isn't long enough to really reach it now.

Oh, and here's the QMK way into that world. Who knew? https://paulfioravanti.com/blog/2019/04/28/chording-qwerty-with-qmk-combos/
I love the shrinking of letter keys into two rows. Totally justifies ortholinear!
I hadn't, but that's an interesting thought. I already have the macro foot stool, so I'm not sure how much more macro capability I need and can reasonably remember.
I picked up an old steno machine a few months ago that I want to modernize or do something with, but I haven't even cleaned it yet.
I just clicked through to the maker of the board - these are cool: https://www.gboards.ca/products

Have you considered chording to make it do even more with the same number of keys? Chording is something alien to me but it strikes me as the charlieplexing of the input world.
