21Staple rug to platform
In this step you'll make the platform you'll walk on. You don't need to cut it into a circle for this rig. You can just buy a 4ft by 4ft sheet of wood (row 58) and use that. You also don't need the carpet tiles that the platform is resting on.
I used a 0.75in thick piece of wood, but I'm pretty sure a 0.5in piece would work too.
You should use a thin rug like the one I linked to in the BOM (row 59). The carpet is to add a little friction for the VR shoes and to reduce noise.
I used this thin runner rug.
Cut out a piece of the rug to go on top of the wood. Staple it (row 60) to the wood.
Optionally, to help reduce noise, you can add a layer of polystyrene (row 57) underneath the wood. If you're in a carpeted room, this probably isn't necessary.
I have 3 layers to increase the distance between the floor and the bottom of the platform for my free-standing support rig, but for this rig I think you'd really only need one or two layers. Each layer the photo below is 0.5in thick. I also have a layer of the rug on the bottom of the platform too, but that is also for the free-standing support rig. For this rig you only need the rug on the top of the wood.
That's it, you're done with this build.
