Cyberdecks are cool, but typically require a user to design and 3d-print an enclosure and keyboard. This project aims to design and document ways to reuse thermal baby wedge typewriters as a base platform for creating a portable computing device I'm calling the CyberWedgē.

Several manufacturers in the 1980s produced a device that typewriter aficionados refer to as thermal baby wedges. These devices typically paired a thermal printing mechanism with a microcomputer and keyboard, allowing users to do their typing on the go. The thermal printing heads work with a special cassette ribbon to print on standard paper, or they could print directly onto thermal paper typically used in fax machines at the time (currently used in most receipt printers today). Due to the rarity of these ribbon cassettes, and the fact that any modern laptop will run circles around these devices for word processing applications, they can be typically purchased for a few bucks at thrift shops.
