FixedE-bike

DIY friction drive for old fixed gear bike.

Similar projects worth following
The goal of this project is to make a budget conversion of my bike to a ebike.

I bought the biggest brushless motor I could find in the range of my wallet, power and speed.
Strap this together with 2 pulleys and a belt to lower the speed and increase the torque with a value of 3.75 (60 tooth / 16 tooth).
The 60 tooth pulley is bolted onto a skatewheel which is ideal because of it's own bearings.
The 16 tooth pulley is fixed to the shaft of the RC brushless motor and transfers it's torque through the belt to the skatewheel.

By spring loading this contraption to the rear bike wheel will give me instant speed...

The power unit is explained in the description.

Now the Electronics;

The amps from the lipo's are run trough a ESC and the ESC control's the brushless motor.

The ESC is controlled by the Arduino by reading the throttle switch.

The throttle is nothing more than a potentiometer with 3 connectors V+, signal and Gnd.

This signal is read by the Arduino and send's a PMW signal in proportion of the throttle position to the ESC.

    The waterproof enclosure arrived this morning.

    The lipo's fit in the box pretty snuggly.

    Still waiting for the ESC and arduino to test the power of the motor...

    But the switch and hand trainer arrived this morning :)

    The hand trainer has a big torsion spring that I can use to make sure the skatewheel has enough coupling with my back bike wheel.
