Here it is August 28, 2018 and I have decided that IO has reached its limit. I have learned a lot from this project but IO has has grown to the extent that I no longer have enough room to work on any other projects and I might be moving away from the coast in the next year.
I will be saving IOs boards either for future use in IO2 or will use the parts on other projects. I wish to thank everyone here on Hackaday for their support and look forward to the same support in future projects.
There are no set plans for IO2 except that it will be much more modular in design.

I've been on a bit of a break over the summer and I've just read this. I'm a little saddened, this was one of my favourite projects. It was inspirational watching IO come to life and spurred me into learning more and that helped fuel my own projects.
I hope, whether you move or not, that you do another computer project and I sincerely wish you well.
IO forever!

Hey there Martian, don't be too sad. IO2 will be starting soon enough and with some new #Light Logic gates just to turn some heads :-D Gates without transistors, relays or vacuum tubes :-D

I'm looking now! wow! :)

i kind of expected this after you cannibalized IO for your color sensor project... this type of computing project is very hard to see through to a grand finish... after a certain point you realize 98% of your goals were completed and that the last 2% isn't really worth it...

Hi Dave, Well in the end Color Cord just used a better version from IOs sequencer and IO itself was still complete but yes 98% sounds about right and it was intended to be a learning platform and indeed it was. IO2 will be better and more flexible :-)

Oh now, it's not that sad a moment, just time to move on and IO will still live again in other projects :-)

Yeah, but it still makes me feel kind of like this...

...to see the end of it. I know the parts will get reused, but it still hits me in the feels.
