i could see this either becoming a pocketable gadget like a Tamagotchi or maybe a tiny desk toy that you wouldn't mind stealing a minute of your attention. there are a few todos already on my list, including adding a reset button to quickly regenerate a new population.
i'm aware the ATTiny85 has EEPROM, truthfully i'm still a little nervous about burning the memory out but i think it could be useful for small extra functions like storing the seed of your current population in case you like how it turned out :D

For a long time I was very cautious about EEPROM writes, because of that scary information all around the web : only 100000 write cycles.
Then I read the datasheet and learnt that the flash memory you write your program onto has only 10000 write/erase cycles.
I'm still cautious, but now I know I will more likely kill my chips by uploading programs on it thousands of times. :)
