Initially, the body was made from insulation foam, just because it was easy to work with and it was what i had on hand.
However, this design proved weak in the middle. Also, i learned that the barrel needs to stay above the trigger, otherwise the gun is awkward to hold.

Not very. The little metal ball travelled 2-3 meters, but it was enough to prove the principle.
coil guns are expensive to make
thats the annoying thing

I know this is old but if you made it multi coil with sensors to cut each coil off as the projectile enters, you could get the velocity up substantially. I’m considering starting a railgun soon
