This is a simple robot with a chassis completely made of Legos. Even the tires and motors are Lego. It's controlled by a Raspberry Pi powered by a LiPo battery.

To access the internet a WiFi USB dongle is attached.
The goal is to make the bot accessible via a VPN from around the globe to drive around the flat and check everything with the image feed from the USB webcam.

For additional devices it is equipped with a USB hub.
In the end it shall be able to be charged via induction or contacts at a charger station.

To power the system I'm using a standard 2200mAh 11.1V RC LiPo battery.

A LM2596 circuit provides the 5V for the Pi.

The Pi runs the standard OS Raspbian.

The extandability is given because of the versatility of LEGO.

Via a L293D H-bridge are the motos directly controlled using th GPIO pins.

I'm using the old 9V Lego Technic Motors.

    I've managed to confige the Wifi settings with wicd and established a SSH connection in my LAN

    By manually manipulating the GPIO pins I got the motors running. 

    The system works :-)

  • Powering the Pi

    Adjusting the swithcing regulator circuit to 5V.

    By only powering the Pi, the current from the battery is 0.3A.

    2.2Ah/0.3A=7h

    Because of the efficency of 66.7% of the regulator it gets a little hot.

    I've managed to build a Lego case aroud the Pi and the USB hub.

    Motors in the front. Spinnable wheel in the back.
