monitor water level with ultrasonic system to better than 1/2" allows for calculating water usage and also water leakage with sufficient accuracy.
system could also shut down tank outlet if major leak determined. would also have to shut down pressure pump...
system would report usage data and alarm status through webpage interface, phone app, etc.

Recieved my two Moteino controllers and a Raspberry Pi. very easy stuff to work with, of course. Testing out codebender.cc for programming the moteinos, works great! love it, so much lighter than Eclipse it's hard to even compare.
presently bringing up the RPi according to Lowpower.com structure for an internet gateway, made wireless with a serially attached moteino.
this seems like a very popular site where i thought i could keep a log of my experimental projects, but i somehow stole my own user name, have to log in every time i visit the site, and the "log" just doesn't work as expected. obviously others don't seem to have a problem. maybe it's temporary problems with the admin system, but i'll have to wait this out. or find another site.
in other words, the work flow sucks.
project is proceeding along. working on getting wireless programming of my Moteinos happening now.
Mmmm, I live in Australia on tank water, and the ability to see if it's dropping faster then expected as an alarm would be great, and an auto-alert when it drops to a certain level letting me know it's time to buy water.
if i did this when i had the idea years ago i would have a great database already. With the drought we have here in california, a stuck toilet valve can cost a lot. not sure how to pull out a small leakage signal as quickly as possible just yet, but looking forward to some real data to work with. if a stuck toilet can last all night i should be able to sound an alarm before morning anyway.
