First power-up of the Third Proto-type
04/19/2015 at 03:35 • 0 commentsThe goal now is to make a fully functional smart-switch in its final mechanical form. Below is a picture of the electronics and the 3D printed shields. The electronics have not yet been programmed with the firmware from the 2nd proto-type but it is producing 5V from the AC mains.
The 3D printed plastic bits do not fit very well yet so the electronics are wrapped in electrical tape.

Second Proto-type
04/19/2015 at 03:31 • 0 commentsThe remains of my first proto-type. I was able to throttle a cordless drill and monitor its current usage with this mess of wires.

Plastic shock shields
02/09/2015 at 04:47 • 0 commentsThe initial designs for the mechanical bits are now complete. Since this is AC power, we need plastic coverings for everything.

The circuit prototypes work.
02/09/2015 at 04:45 • 0 commentsThe circuit prototypes work. I can get 5V off the AC to power the micro-controller and the switch throttles my electric drill just fine. It throttles a florescent lamp too, but it seems that florescent lamps do not like to be throttled. The bulb burned out. The hall sensor can see the current draw.
