These are awesome. I would have loved these for my first digital logic class many years ago.
I have found that "single gate" ICs are more expensive than SOIC14/16 parts. And your PCB needs 4 1G parts so this is not very cost-optimised.
But it's a nice idea :-)
Thanks! and yes the price of four "single gates" is about 3 times higher than a one chip =/
Well... it depends where you get them. Some brokers are quite competitive, I just found some cheap reels for #DYPLED
with some luck it's possible to find interesting deals : www.ebay.com/itm/231783916328
Just a friendly reminder to please upload your gerbers by 23:59 UTC on Dec 8, 2015 to be in the running for #The Square Inch Project!
I updated the board, to fit two board into a Square Inch and make it a DIP package =)
This is your one-week reminder to upload design documents: https://hackaday.io/project/7813-the-square-inch-project/log/28566-design-deadline
Very cool, but would it be difficult to make it fit in a typical DIP-spacing? Not sure how skinny they come, might require four of those 1-gang devices!
I added some more photos for reference, the dimensions now are like a PDIP package but using single gates in TSOP or SC packages maybe it fit in to a DIP style package. mmmm... Thanks for your comment!! =)
Hey, an onboard capacitor too! That'd make prototyping/breadboarding easer-still!
That's a clever idea. If you would make the same for NAND, OR, NOR gates, and the various flip-flops, you might have a marketable educational product.
Yes, i'm planning to make the basic gates (OR,NOT,NAND,NOR,XOR,XNOR) and some flip-flops, counter, BCD to decimal, BCD to 7 Seg., ... Thanks for your comment =)
