Bottom Rail is printed
02/16/2016 at 23:09 • 0 commentsAnother deep cleaning, a call to the support engineers (which is XYZPrinting's saving grace, BTW), and the bottom rail is done. The keyed supports I designed to attach the walls to the bottom are slightly too large, so I just cut them down for now. I could probably just reprint though with the keys 1mm shorter to fit better.
And, while I am printing the second rail section, a thought occurred to me: I probably should have mirrored the rail model, as one side has a slightly larger gap for a leaf. I hope it's not enough to make everything off-kilter
Lastly: I think the reason my last 5 attempts at printing the rails failed because the infill was too open for such a wide area. Most problems wound up being de-lamination between distinct build layers. I made these last ones 25% and they seem to be holding. Eats thru the filament spool though...

Leaves are done!
02/16/2016 at 04:13 • 0 commentsCheck my gallery for my final leaf design. One has a Pi Zero in it, the other is merely assembled. I'm pretty happy about them. For my purposes, I can reach what I need to.
Tomorrow, I load the new spool of filament and HOPEFULLY print the rails.
Thanks to the DRM of my printer manufacturer, my printer reports 0 filament available in spite of the fact that there is probably 3-4 meters left. Ah well, it was a spool to learn from anyway.

GET A PALLET KNIFE!
02/15/2016 at 22:17 • 0 commentsIf your chisel is too beefy in releasing prints, get a triangular pallet knife. It's thin, steel and just lifts your object up like you wouldn't believe.

Leaf count will be reduced
02/15/2016 at 21:00 • 0 commentsSeeing as how i don't HAVE 8 Pi Zeros, but mostly, the fact that I misjudged the overall thickness of a completed leaf, I can only plan on a 4 leaf Bramble. In theory, as I am NOT opening that last sealed Magpi40.
This will be demonstrated with 2 Pi Zeros, and if I can wrap my head around how to design interlocks, I will reduce the overall STL to just a couple rails (to connect like breadboards) and the leaf, as a bonus. That way, when supply is able to meet demand, you will be able to drop $40 and get 8 Pi Zeros, print 8 rails, and go.

2 piece leaf is done!!!
02/15/2016 at 20:33 • 0 commentsFinally! Looks like a deep cleaning was needed for the 3d printer. I am uploading a picture of the leaf with a Pi Zero running. It's a fairly tight 2 piece construction. As long as you don't use the Bramble as a football, it should hold up fine.
Now I am waiting on a different OTG connector that will allow me to move the cable out of the way.
Tonight I will try to print one more leaf and use the rest of the filament spool before tackling the rails again...

3D Printing craziness
02/15/2016 at 18:17 • 0 commentsSo I had to make a call to the manufacturer of my 3D printer. Seems I needed to make a deep, DEEP cleaning of everything. Feeder pulleys AND extruder. At one point, I thought that the extruder went south, because I got an error common to this brand (XYZPrinting). Hey, it's only $350 for 15x15x15 cm!
Anyhoo, it looks like I may be back on track to printing my case now. Other than the crazy amount of adjustments out of the box (in spite of their claims), it seems okay. I just wish they wouldn't DRM the filament. Now I have to print small things to maximize my use of the last of the roll before I change.
Also, I am testing a new scraper since I have decided to go without painter's tape and am just using a glue stick on glass: BTW, get the disappearing purple stuff, you'll see where you covered the glass. The scraper is a thin pallet knife and seems like it has more control than the thing that came in the box with the printer.

D'oh!
02/15/2016 at 04:36 • 0 commentsi made a bush_league mistake. I kept trying to use a dvd to print a 16gb image to.
Duh...:-\ And now I have to start all over again and begin with the head of the cluster. Well, the cluster is called a bramble, so we'll call this first one the root ball. It'll have a 32 gb SD card and a WiFi AND rj45 plug
I will use the WiFi for the communication between nodes and the rj45 will be the connection to the rest of the world, so to speak.

Copy the Original Image
02/14/2016 at 22:22 • 0 commentsI tried to use W32DiskImager to make an image of the resulting work from the previous steps, but no luck. I'm gotta pull out the Linux box.
dd if = /dev/sda of = /home/ross/Desktop/Zero_Bramble.img

Make things a cluster
02/14/2016 at 21:33 • 0 commentsJust run the following:
apt-get install mpich2
