Who I Am

Eric Mockler
I was initially interested in computers/electronics, but spent my time learning about carpentry until 1992. Fooled around with a commodore 128 until I exhausted its capabilities, got an XT and was hooked. Went back to college at UCCC for EE, but obtained my CNE (Certified Netware Engineer) and was hired by the school as a field engineer, till 1998. With CNE & MCSE got IT Director job in NYC till 2008, then moved back upstate,
first as IT Dir for county, currently self employed.

Why I'm on Hackaday.io

I've been working on the "Hydra" since fall of '11, when I discovered it while researching a Digital Menu Board project. I continued experimenting with the "Hydra" and built a multi-headed Gaming box for my kids to play on. With the direct access to GPU hardware & the benefits of virtualization, I felt that this is the future of desktop computing. Or should be. This seems to be a good platform to promote it, while I develop a way to make this accessible to all.

So let's try powder coating a blank PCB using laser printer toner as the powder. Then we put the PCB in the cheapo laser engraver. Adjust power to just melt the toner. Theoretically fine detail should be possible, plus more control over toner thickness & hopefully avoid the little spots that need a touch up with sharpie before etching.

My Dad passed away mid April, so I have been dealing with that & ignoring these projects of mine.  He taught me how to hack, I remember disassembling radios at age 5 & sorting out the components for him.  He was a Butcher, and this was evident in his Ham radio hacks. If you look close you can probably detect some butchery in my hacks.  I know garage door openers are popular here,  and mine works, but It's not at all photogenic enough to post here.....

Look for some updates maybe next week...
