So after some research, I've decided to use BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) to connect all the devices in the room to the control center, which will then be connected to wifi. That being said, my next step will be to design an efficient, low cost device that will allow me to send commands to the control center via wifi, which will then delegate that command to the BLE-enabled devices. If anyone has experience working with BLE, any advice would be much appreciated.

Right now I'm in the planning stage, trying to figure out what I need to get, how much I have to spend, and how exactly I want to implement everything. Right now, I'm looking at omnidirectional mikes for voice control and an old HTC incredible to use as a remote. I also have the RasPi and 7" touchscreen that I want to use for the main control interface at the front of the room.
