Small update, now the visor is a bit more narrow, enough to protect ears but not to completely cover them.
Hi guys,
i have really good news for anyone who is producing or want to produce our shields in big numbers and sell them to those at need. We have just posted our own, well crafted license agreement that was made by our marvelous colleagues who knows something about licensing law :).
Don't be afraid, our license is very permissive, you can make money producing our design. If you are preparing to start commercial production, please take few minutes and read posted agreement.
As always, if you do have any questions, please leave a comment.
Great news everyone!
After countless prototypes and hundreds of ideas we can now present you second version of our shield! There is a lot of new features:
Also, we've removed front bottom rubber band. It felt useless and only added unnecessary element.
Great thanks for whole community, ideas you gave us and the pace of new iterations are astonishing.
We are sure there will be more from us so lets keep in touch!

Hi szynyszyl, thank you very much for sharing the idea, just have two question, ¿Do we need to send the Copyright Agreement signed?, and if i have made some adjustments for maximize production capabilities, ¿is it still needed?
Hello! Thank you very much for your design, it is so much easier and faster to make than 3d printed alternatives. :)
We couldn't find any transparent sheets large enough for it, so we redesigned it a bit to fit on a A4 sheet or two.
Here are the details: https://hackaday.io/project/170661-laser-cut-medical-shield-on-a4-sheet
We linked back to here for licenses and such, I hope that's ok.
Hi! Anybody tried to use PETG 1.0mm? Can't get 0.5 anywhere. Or do you have other ideas for materials that would work for this project? Have to work with a laser cutter. :)
Hi Victoria, 1.0 mm is way too thick for version 2. It is also too thick for v1 but it is possible to modify the file for bigger clearance so 1mm could be used. You can try it by yourself. In Case you don't know how to do that, wait for next update, we will add some other thicknesses.
I tried with 0,7mm PETG and its ok, but I must to modify a little square openings. with the original file I have a few broken ones.
Hi! We have about 100 of these to put together - used .025" PETG on a Glowforge laser
cutter.
Our family sat around the dining table putting these together last night but it was a challenge to not have tabs break or crack. If you have any tips for assembly please let me know. We also tried heating strap with a hair dryer to warm it up. We are in New Jersey where they are needed badly.
Thank you for the design and hope to get better at assembling!
Hi, are you using v1 or v2? V1 have bigger clearance and is easier to assembly. Also, be sure to have PETG, as regular PET is a bit more brittle and can break easily.
Hi we are using V2 with .025" (or .635mm) PETG. After about 30 I have gotten better at assembly :)
Hello , any recommendation for 0,5mm PETG sheet suppliers or a replacement material
Where can get the new files for the second version of your Medical Shield? We want to check how to produce it and how many we can make a day. It is urgent please
At the top of the site, use V2_medical_shield_0_5mm.dxf.dxf file
Hello, where should I send the license form with the company information?
Sorry, I didn't notice.
Should I send it in the care of Mateusz Dyrda to srskalp.pl ?
Best regards
Great progress. Do you all want to post your idea to https://www.facebook.com/groups/opensourcecovid19medicalsupplies/ ? They are a group that are helping to collect open-source designs and work with hospitals to approve them.
Also, where the rubber band is on the bottom, I assume that is to help enforce the curve. Could you also do that with another scrap strip of laser cut sheet?
Hi Justin, so we already have posted our design to this group, maybe reposting by someone else is good idea as it gets covered by other posts. With the rubber band, we thought the same, but experiments showed that rubber band add almost nothing. Also, we've received feedback that it makes it difficult to clean and decontaminate.
Yes, I think this should be re-posted, or at least a new post for V2. I didn't see any of your images in photos section. I didn't look through all the posts to see where you originally posted this.
hey guys - we're able to produce 3,000 right now, likely min of 10,000 per week (trying to confirm max 100k per week) - but can you tell me ... have you had medical people review this? if not, might you be able to?
Hi Derek, we are trying to reach to polish Ministry of Healthcare for someone to review our design. Right now we are getting good response from medics bo no, we do not have any certificate yet.
Also, V2 will be distributed under new license, much more friendly for producers who would like to sell it for a reasonable price :).
Świetny projekt! W artykułach powinni dawać do Was linka.
Awesome project! Any possibility of modifying to a more permissive license more in line with Open Source Hardware to make it easier to scale, etc? (e.g. https://www.helpfulengineering.org/licensing-guide/)
We will have custom made (and more permissive) license tomorow morning, stay tune!
@Marcos D. Rocha we will publish today official second version with improved snapping mechanism, better face coverage and some other features. So stay in touch :).
great! thanks! I just cutted both and realized that the medical_shield_petg_05mm.pdf snapped better!
Congratulation for this initiative! Any one can tell me what are the pros and cons between model 1 and 2? I see they have different connectors design for the assembly between the tow pieces, but didn’t get the difference!
Great idea! We will try to produce it in Portugal! Thank you guys! Let's stop this f...king virus!
If anybody could please tell me where to pick this material up (in large enough sheets), I am willing to spend a few hundred bucks making these for the local med facilities (free of course)
Does anyone have a link to where I could purchase the acrylic? Good source with possible quick delivery? Would love to help out and make a bunch of these on our laser. <3
Hi! I'm a brand new Glowforge user. Literally I opened the box yesterday and want to try to make some of these face shields for the local hospital. From my limited knowledge the Glowforge can scan an image or read an upload of a pdf. But I can't print the pdf for this project on one page and uploading the file has both pages. Would it be too much to ask for the pdf to fit on a legal size paper so I can print it? Or have the pdf file only have the 2nd page so I can upload to the Glowforge?
Hi, i've just added PDF single version. Hope it will work.
Hi - I think i figured it out. I put the pdf in inkscape. Thank you for the design!!
