My goal so far is to create a tesla'ish center touchscreen that replaces the radio. What I want the control center to do:
- display OBD information
- dedicated amp
- receive fm/am/dab radio
- bluetooth audio receiver
- make calls through bluetooth

Nice! I've added this to my follow list. I'm currently updating a 2009 Chevrolet Express Cargo Van. It did not have a rear-view camera originally. One is going in today. I also plan to replace the radio with a unit that has an aux/line-in, so I can plug in one of the bluetooth receivers I have lying around. I already have an OBD trip computer, the ScanGauge, that I've plugged into whatever car I'm owning at the moment.
In my case, everything I'm doing is with off-the-shelf parts, and won't look 'factory' or be executed to the level of fit and finish you're achieving. But certain tech in today's cars really do improve the vehicle significantly -- rear view cameras being a big one. For instance, mandating all cars sold in the US as model-year 2018 and newer must come equipped with a rear-view camera. I think that's good policy; about 18k injuries related to a vehicle backing up occur each year in the US alone.
