1:1 on the distance and time movement is working now.
upgraded the firmware in the smoothieboard, that took a few times, but all is well now.
there is too much slop in the belts, and none of the grbl/smoothie parameters are set but its working.
i ordered a bunch of slightly shorter belts from polybelt since the Y adjustment is at its limit and too much slop/backlash.
i'm just sending raw Gcode from eagle via telnet
pretty good progress for a Saturday. probably be a while before its lasering though, i have some other plans for it first.
well colour me impressed with the smoothieboard, after a few odd starts on the windows drivers side it popped up, i wired up the motor drivers i'm using to the pins , switched on the network config ,rebooted and moved one of the axis along.
cat 5e was all i had lying around handy
a tad heath robinson
24V for now.
lightobject saturday shipped my drivers , once i realised the smoothieboard was not even gonna come close (without external drivers, and then i feel its a waste of a board). lightobect have been great to me so far.
rear section (doge and frame)
drivers
Si 25mm mirrors
in a box.
ok belts to install, some alignment and wire up the motors.
putting the frame together, just you get an idea of the scale of this, that's a full grown Irish wolfhound in the previous set.
i'm using the countersunk screws here, they're obvious since almost exactly the right amount and the small right angle brackets are countersunk
lower frame corners, other pieces for deciding orientation and build order.
truck
rear right, i'm going to mount the rear drive before the top tracks i think.
rear left
middle rear, there are larger holes on the bottom side, i'm making the assumption they are (and fedex arrives with some more parts) access holes to screw into the Y motor brackets. though there are two holes and 4 tapped holes on the bracket. the 6 tapped holes are on the rear. kinda feeling i should have put mount on first since i'm working on the floor, time to break out the awesome metal saw horses from OSH that were on sale.
enough of the chatter and back to the building..
this thing is huge , no idea where i'm going to put it. doge for scale
I choose to do the packs, since it is all useful bits and pieces and no matter how many of those darn pack of nuts, bolts screws, etc i buy from HF etc i never have the right ones. These quantities are for individual part quantities, and not boxes. $293.50 before shipping and taxes, or about $69 if you buy in the actual part count.

A few days ago i ordered parts for part of the frame from misumi, they have a special going on where I could get $150 off the first order.
The details of the discount are here, I accidentally used First150--Reddit, but that is not the right code, since they have it for a specific set of parts for a 3d Printer.
"To receive the $150.00 Credit, companies must place their first order online using a Credit Card and include promotion code "First150--BuildLog" in the "Special Instructions" of the order. Offer is based only on the value of the goods purchased; freight and handling charges are excluded. The full value of the $150.00 credit must be used on the first order, no promotional credit balance will carried forward. Offer expires March 31, 2014. Available in US and Canada only."
Details are here.

Sorry about the funky layout, i copied it off the order I made, you should double check with the Buildlog BOM, because if i did make any mistakes i won't know til i start assembling it.

I ended up turning the LO kit into a camera, and still have the buildlog parts. some of the parts need to be CNC'd since they're no longer available, so i'm finishing up my G0704 first.
