This is a three parts synthy, combining the following
Drones
always on when turning (probably 40106)
Melodic keyboard
needs a keyboard of some sort
rhythm
with input from dynamo or encoder wheel on crank
will also need a good generator / dynamo - 3 phase brushless maybe?
I've spent a little on the motor and you could argue that having a 3D printer might forever factor into your projects.. but since my moob removal surgery (if I just say surgery people ask anyway) I wasn't up to my tinkering game and wasn't working on this. It feels dishonest not to share this and I've made sure an awesome project, the #ZeroPhone - a Raspberry Pi smartphone from this platform got the money instead. @Arsenijs lives for that project and that dedication is what I envy and sometimes lack with my projects. Hope that levels some karma :D
currently printing all of this, I already forgot the tooth count and ratio of the gear box, but I think it's something like 1:5 or 1:6. Or maybe it was 1:10. Reminds me a bit of my #Locomatrix - 3D POV - a different approach
now what? I need to do some experiments, find out what speeds I need, what kind of gearboxes make sense etc to get the most our of the motor. There are chips like LM74670 that together with a MOSFET can replace diodes for creating a rectifier. First thing that needs to be done is a small gearbox and crank.
The LT4320 (I'd need three of them) is around 6 Euros each. Ouch.

Good luck with the self powering part. You would need to buffer at least some of the energy, because sometimes there are pauses, see e.g. at 0:45:

and power could be a problem for a speaker. Also forward/backward movements are possible, see at 2:13 and 3:47, and faster movements sound different, see 2:53:

so you should measure the speed and direction of the crank.

I didn't say this yesterday, but I'm very happy to see a hurdy gurdy project on here. It's been the instrument I'm most interested in learning (though that interest is still not enough to actually do something about) since I saw Guilhem Desq's Omen video 3.75 years ago. I have an idea for a musical project that I might work on soon, and drones might be a great addition to it, so thanks for the inspiration there!
Another idea: droning drone! A drone (the flying kind) that produces a controllable musical droning sound as it flies.
