Really liked your serial to parallel printer solution.
Just wondering about some details of the project and how it is powered up.
Does it get its power directly from the printer or via the USB interface?
Also, would it be possible to get the code that the interface runs to convert from serial to parallel ?
I am a bit new to arduino type projects, but I need to build such a device such as you have to help an elderly friend of mine who has a unit which prints out via a serial rs232 port. The unit does not have a USB or parallel interface and outputs only in Epson or hp protocol.
Ideally, I wanted to find some sort of Rs232 -> USB b converter to print directly from the legacy rs232 unit to a USB printer, but realise that this is not an easy solution as there is likely a requirement for some sort of bridge to convert the protocol from rs232 to USB. Nothing on the net had anything like this.
Anyhow, I would really be grateful if you could share with me the aduino code or any other information from your project so that I can help my friend.

You should be able to download both the schematic and arduino code for this project from the hackaday.io post. Look for the section called "FILES".
My circuit normally gets power from the printer. There is a schottky diode connecting the printer's +5 volt supply to the Arduino Pro-Micro raw voltage input (J1 is closed to bypass the on-board voltage regulator since we're supplying 5 volts). This diode allows powering the arduino section from its USB port so that code can be loaded without the printer being powered. It prevents power from the USB port flowing backwards into the printer.
Regarding your desire to print to a USB printer from RS232. I wonder if something could be cobbled together cheaply using a Raspberry Pi (or Pi Zero since it is so cheap). Have the pi's serial port take data from the RS232 device (though appropriate level shifting circuitry) and then spool it through Linux's printer software to an attached USB printer.
